A cruise ship seems like an unlikely place for a talented couple like The Gibbonses to get started on, but they sure did. Jackie joined with Brandon as the entertainment on many aquatic adventures until it lead to them starting a new adventure as husband and wife. After a parent health scare brought the couple back to Texas from Seattle (Jackie is originally from the Lone Star State while Brandon grew up in Connecticut), they quickly saw how two artists could make a living playing music in the local Texas Country/Americana scene.
You may have caught their energetic performances at 95.9 The Ranch’s Ranchfactor in Willow Park, or caught them at one of their local shows. If you haven’t, you should! This past March, they won Rattle’s Spring Singer/Songwriter competition at Dan’s Silverleaf in Denton. They’re very different than your run-of-the-mill Texas/Red Dirt band. Mixing Country, Soul, Blues and Rock into a two-person band gives them a distinct sound unlike any of their peers. Jackie uses her powerful voice and shakes the tambourine while keeping rhythm on a kick drum. Brandon provides harmonies and the guitar work to round out their live sound. It’s original and organic.
At the end of 2015, Brandon and Jackie went into the studio to record their first full length album. The first single, Outbound, has already made its way to some radio stations.
They’re not completely country. They’re not completely rock, but they have lots of soul and fit nicely amongst the rising artists in the scene like Prophets & Outlaws, Zac Wilkerson and Erick Willis. DD
